Summer Wise Water Use

Our signature summer conservation program helps Suffolk County residents reduce outdoor water use during peak demand months. Follow the odd/even watering schedule and earn recognition as a Wise Water household.

Eligibility

Conservation Tips

  • Water lawns only on alternate days based on your house number (odd/even)
  • Water between 6 PM and 10 AM to reduce evaporation
  • Set mower blades to 3 inches to promote deeper roots
  • Use a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways
  • Check for and repair leaks in outdoor faucets and hoses

Rain Barrel Rebate Program

Capture rainwater for garden use and reduce demand on the public water supply. SCWA offers a $50 rebate on qualifying rain barrel purchases for residential customers.

Eligibility

Available to all SCWA residential customers. Limit one rebate per household per year.

Conservation Tips

  • Position barrels under downspouts for maximum collection
  • Use collected water for gardens, lawns, and car washing
  • A single rain barrel can save up to 1,300 gallons during peak summer months

Low-Flow Fixture Exchange

Trade in old, inefficient fixtures for free WaterSense-certified low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators. These fixtures can reduce indoor water use by up to 30%.

Eligibility

Open to all SCWA customers. Visit any SCWA customer service office during regular business hours.

  • Low-flow showerheads use 2.0 GPM vs. standard 2.5 GPM
  • Faucet aerators reduce flow to 1.5 GPM without noticeable pressure loss
  • A family of four can save over 10,000 gallons per year
